{"id":19,"date":"2014-05-28T01:40:33","date_gmt":"2014-05-28T01:40:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/?page_id=19"},"modified":"2015-02-03T13:42:58","modified_gmt":"2015-02-03T13:42:58","slug":"activism","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/activism\/","title":{"rendered":"Activism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not one to sit around and get trampled.\u00a0 I advocate for things in which I believe.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Not necessarily in a confrontational way, but trying to persuade people to see the sides of the issue they may not want to see.\u00a0\u00a0 Some examples in the last few years are:<\/p>\n<p>Antrim Wind Energy&#8217;s proposed industrial wind facility on Tuttle and Willard mountains.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;m not necessarily opposed to wind.\u00a0 But when it involves clearing mountain tops adjacent to a 4,000- <a href=\"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/BrianBest2014IMG_2994.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-194 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/BrianBest2014IMG_2994-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"BrianBest2014IMG_2994\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/BrianBest2014IMG_2994-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/BrianBest2014IMG_2994.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>acre &#8220;super-sanctuary,&#8221; the largest such tract in southwest New Hampshire,\u00a0 and the placement of 496&#8242; towers on 2,000 ft elevation mountains, I object.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I also object to local officials being too cozy with the company proposing it, a company which has never built a project of this magnitude, and has been run out of every community in which they&#8217;ve attempted a project.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This is one project where you need to look at the facts, not just which way the wind is blowing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When my local school district was presented a petition from two dozen disgruntled <a href=\"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/closeGBS.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-292 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/closeGBS-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"closeGBS\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/closeGBS-300x225.jpeg 300w, http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/closeGBS.jpeg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>citizens wanting to close the middle school serving Antrim, Bennington, Francestown and Hancock and consolidate it with a second school in Peterborough.\u00a0 This was against the position of the school board, would overcrowding the remaining school, and forcie our four towns into an hour-long bus ride.\u00a0 I objected and worked to defeat it. \u00a0 The same group has filed the petition again this year, and we&#8217;ve dusted off the signs and started writing letters to the editor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/senioratslots.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-226 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/senioratslots-300x280.jpg\" alt=\"senioratslots\" width=\"159\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/senioratslots-300x280.jpg 300w, http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/senioratslots.jpg 357w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 159px) 100vw, 159px\" \/><\/a>There has been an effort since the 1970s to locate a casino, or casinos, in New Hampshire.\u00a0 In all this time, the New Hampshire House has had the good sense to keep casino gambling out of New Hampshire.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The fact is, casinos harm people.\u00a0 It&#8217;s one of the few businesses which makes it a priority to take your money.\u00a0 ALL your money.\u00a0 And the closer you live to one, the more threat there is.\u00a0 Addiction, bankruptcy, embezzlement, violent crimes.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been to Las Vegas many times for trade shows.\u00a0\u00a0 We do not need that in New Hampshire.\u00a0 I&#8217;m proud to be part of team which works so hard to protect our state and the citizens who can least afford to lose their money to this predatory business.<\/p>\n<p>brb<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not one to sit around and get trampled.\u00a0 I advocate for things in which I believe.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Not necessarily in a confrontational way, but trying to persuade people to see&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"more-link-wrapper\"><a class=\"more-link\" href=\"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/activism\/\">Read More<span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Activism<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-19","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry","excerpt"],"jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/19","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=19"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/19\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":223,"href":"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/19\/revisions\/223"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/brian.beihl.org\/BRB\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=19"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
