PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Deputy Director, Open Democracy & NH Rebellion, (6/2015 – 4/2016 for NH Primary)
Succeeded in making campaign finance reform a significant issue in the 2016 Presidential campaigns as part of a dedicated team of seven staff and hundreds of volunteers.    Challenged Presidential candidates to say what reforms they would bring forward to address the corrupting influence of Big Money politics.     Oversight of social media, organized press conferences, rallies, and protest walks.   In the days before the 2016 NH Primary, directed the “We the People” Convention to Fight Big Money, attended by almost 1,000 people over three days in downtown Manchester.   Event speakers included four U.S. Congressmen, a U.S. Senator, six Presidential candidates, and dozens of the top academics, authors and activists in the campaign finance reform movement.    Coverage of the event was seen on ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, CSPAN, and other major U.S. media, as well as media from three dozen foreign networks and print media outlets.

Field Organizer, Casino Free NH (12/2013 – 5/2017) (Contract position)
Registered lobbyist with State of New Hampshire, helping to coordinate the nonpartisan statewide campaign to keep casino gambling out of casiNO_logoNew Hampshire. Efforts helped to defeat casino bills backed by the governor in 2014, 2015,  2016 & 2017 under heavy pressure from the well-financed casino industry.  Worked with legislators and collect intel on positions. Wrote and prepare position papers, mailings, handouts. Assisted in press conferences and events for legislators. Organized statewide calling and social media campaigns with coalition member groups.  Casino developers in Salem pulled out after a decisive vote in May 2017.

Station Manager, WNHN 94.7,  Concord, NH (11/2011-6/2014)
Founding team member of this Concord-based FM station from concept to fully-operational jazz, blues and Progressive talk. Recruitment, training and WNHNlogo2coversight of 30-person staff to develop 12 locally-produced shows and music programming. Syndicated talk show “The Attitude with Arnie Arnesen” to the Pacifica Radio Network. Responsible for web and social media development, including live streaming and podcasting of content.

President & Founder, MCE Catalog Ventures, Inc., Antrim, NH (1/1998-5/2009)
Launched Family on Board, Gear for Safe, Happy Travel, a catalog of products for family car and air travel, the first catalog of its kind, 1998.family_travel_trip_fob_logo2
Employed and managed a staff of 7 employees, and oversaw all aspects of operations, including product selection, direct marketing and web sales, fulfillment and customer service.  Early adopter of web marketing, launching Family on Board on the web in 1999. Later used affiliate marketing and pioneered key word marketing to expand reach.  Obtained angel financing in 2004 and expanded web e-commerce to three web stores, launched affiliate program, expanding sales an average of 80% per year for four consecutive years, reaching $525,00 in sales for three consecutive years.  Family on Board was been featured in many national magazines and newspapers, including TIME, New York Times, Good Housekeeping, Parents, Parenting, USA Today among scores of others.   Also launched Kiddo Music, an online-only retailer of children’s music and video.   Company folded in 2009 as economy collapsed and families reduced discretionary spending.

Consultant, Challenge Publishing, Antrim, New Hampshire (6/1990 to 12/1997)  Part-time – Primary caregiver during this period
Magazine Circulation—Aided small trade publishers with circulation marketing, including strategic planning, direct mail list selection, creative, production and execution; BPA statement analysis; fulfillment troubleshooting and review; second and third-class mailing strategies.Projects included Service News, Golf Course News and Gourmet News with United Publications, Yarmouth, ME, and the relaunch of Voice Coil for Audio Amateur Publications, Peterborough, NH.

Publicity & Editorial Services—Conceived and prepared broadcast and cable television segments on various aspects of interior decorating for designer Lyn Peterson of Motif Designs New Rochelle, NY.  Ms. Peterson, author of three decorating books, has had multiple appearances on NBC’s TODAY, Lifetime’s Our Home, Hearst Corporation’s Room to Grow, and several other syndicated and broadcast shows.

Circulation Director, Helmers Publishing, Inc., Peterborough, New Hampshire  (1/87 to 6/90)
Managed the circulation marketing and fulfillment operations for SENSORS, a 50,000-circulation trade magazine for engineers who specify sensors and related technology, and ID SYSTEMS, a 55,000-circulation magazine covering bar code and automatic identification technology.  Both publications lead their respective fields and both are BPA audited.

Developed advertising marketing and sales strategies and materials for each of these trade publications in conjunction with the publisher.  Sold advertising space for ROBOTICS ENGINEERING via telemarketing, tradeshow, and face-to-face presentations.

NONPROFIT ACTIVITIES

Antrim, NH Citizen of the Year, 2014 – Recognized by the Antrim Grange for years of service to the town of Antrim.

Boys Scout, Cub Scout, and Venturing leader in Antrim & Bennington, NH since 2003-present.  Monadnock District Awarded “District Award of Merit” for noteworthy service to youth, April 2010.   Wood Badge N1-330-14-2 as a participant, and N1-330-16-1 as a staff member. 

District Chairman in charge of Scouting activites in southwest NH.     Awarded Silver Beaver medal, the highest honor for volunteers in the Daniel Webster Council, April 2018.

Founding member and former chairman of the Antrim Chamber of Commerce.     Organized two annual events for the Antrim Chamber of Commerce.   The Antrim Can/Am Skateboard Slalom Championships is one of the six largest International Skateboard Slalom Association events in North America, and attracts athletes from throughout the U.S., Canada & Europe.    Antrim Daffodil Day was featured in a USA Today article in April 2009, part of a beautification and economic development project I developed which planted 12,000 daffodils.

Member, Antrim Home & Harvest Committee, 2006-2013.   Provided marketing and public relations support for this annual fall festival, drawing 4,000+ visitors.

Former chair, two terms, First Presbyterian Church Board of Trustees.   Oversight of buildings, grounds, and  $320,000 endowment.

Former chair, Presbytery of Northern New England Evangelism Committee.   Coordinated evangelism consulting activities with 33 PNNE churches.   Authored and published “The Invitation Sunday Training Program,” (1996)  and “Assimilation Through Invitation” (1997), and coordinated the Presbytery Institute for Congregational Evangelism, an all-New England evangelism conference (1994).
